National Registry Verification For Federal Medical Card Updates

There have been long coming updates to the Federal Medical Card process that are now in effect. The medical examiner completing the medical examination now completes the “self certification” process by submitting commercial vehicle driver medical exam results to the FMCSA and State Driver’s Licensing Agencies (SDLAs) through the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Examiners must submit the update by midnight of the calendar day following the exam, per the rule.

The Federal Motor Carrier will then submit driver identification, examination results, restriction information, and medical variance information to the state agencies.; medical information will then be added to your driver’s record.

In addition to no longer needing to complete the medical card self certification, motor carriers will also no longer need to complete the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners verification.
